Acting is a discipline that requires passion, focus and artistry. The art of acting is about communicating and storytelling. From the ancient Greeks to modern culture, we tell stories; share heartbreak and shed tears; we imagine and travel through time in suspension of disbelief. A good actor engages us, a brilliant actor captivates us and an authentic actor connects us to cultures, stories and characters. Technique training for stage and screen is necessary for actors to create a diverse skill set. Critical thinking and analytical script study is vital to an actor's process. Connecting with the text, understanding the characters and portraying the emotions authentically is paramount to honouring the author's intention. An actor must empathise and connect with the script, interpret and be giving to their audience. Whether it is stage or screen, a true performer who is dedicated to their craft possesses the innate ability to connect us. Marianna Psaltis, Acting and Drama Coach
